We Won a Peabody Award for Our Series on Gaza

May 1, 2025

We're honored to share that we won a Peabody Award for our reports on the personal stories of individuals affected by the conflict in Gaza. Chana Joffe-Walt’s series provides a unique perspective on the war, emphasizing the humanity and agency of those living through it.

Listen to the series:

  • Yousef: Yousef’s Week and Youself and the Fourth Move
A series of phone calls to a man in Gaza, who talks about what he and his family are experiencing — sometimes as they are experiencing it.
  • Youmna: The Words to Say It
Seventy-two days into the war, Youmna stopped talking.
  • Banias: The Narrator
An 8-year-old kid living in Gaza has a story to tell — many stories, in fact.
  • Majd: My Senior Year
One kid comes to America as an exchange student and commits herself to the senior year experience.

Congrats to our team who put the episode together: Chana Joffe-Walt, Valerie Kipnis, Miki Meek, Laura Starecheski, Nancy Updike, Hany Hawasly, Emna Zghal, Nabil Shawkat, Sawsan Abdelatif, Mohammed and Fatma, Christopher Swetala, JaneAckermann, Matt Tierney, Stowe Nelson, Michal Comite, Katherine Rae Mondo, Ryan Rumery, and Julie Whitaker.

And thank you to Yousef, Youmna, Banias, Majd, and their families for sharing their experiences, thoughts, decisions, and feelings with Chana over the phone as they navigate living through the conflict.
